In India, mealtime is considered a sacred ritual and the table setting plays a crucial role in this tradition. The Indian table setting is not only about placing utensils on the table but an artistic expression of the culture.

A typical Indian table setting consists of a plate, a bowl, a spoon, a glass, and a napkin. The plate is placed in the center with the bowl on top of it. The spoon is placed on the right side of the plate, and the glass on the top right corner. The napkin is folded and placed on the left side of the plate.

The table setting also varies depending on the occasion. For formal events such as weddings or festivals, the table is decorated with colorful tablecloths, placemats, and runners. In contrast, everyday meals have a simple and functional setting.

One of the most unique features of the Indian table setting is the use of a banana leaf instead of a plate. In South India, the tradition of serving food on banana leaves is still prevalent. The banana leaf is eco-friendly, and the food served on it has a distinct aroma and flavor.

In some regions, the table setting is not complete without a small metal cup called a tumbler. The tumbler is used to hold water or buttermilk served after the meal.
